Course 12: Research in Practice

This is a compulsory course for all candidates at Stage 3 of the programme.

Pre-requisites
Completion of Stage 2.

Aim
The aim of this course is to acquire the skills to plan and execute an independent research project.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of best practice in designing a research question, selecting appropriate research methods and developing a research plan.
  2. Critically evaluate potential tools for answering the research situation, reflecting on the merits of quantitative and qualitative methods.
  3. Develop a written research proposal, suitable for completion as the dissertation project.

Course 13: Research Project

Completion of Research in Practice

Aim
The aim of this course is to plan, undertake and report upon an independent research project.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify, review and critically appraise a research question related to health informatics.
  2. Demonstrate an ability to collect relevant data to answer the chosen research question.
  3. Demonstrate an ability to discuss the results and conclusions with regard to the literature and the original research question. 
  4. Provide evidence of critical thinking and appraisal of the data presented.
