(a) Knowledge and understanding
Students awarded the Certificate, Diploma and MSc should be able to:
- Demonstrate a breadth of knowledge of the principles of Health Informatics/Health Information Governance
- Demonstrate a critical awareness of the current issues under debate (e.g. policy/ practice, safety/quality)
- Explain the role of informatics in modern health settings
- Demonstrate an awareness of the key research approaches and challenges for evaluation
- Explain the organisational factors influencing technology use and adoption
(b) Intellectual skills
Students awarded the Certificate, Diploma, or MSc should be able to:
- Analyse information systems and management processes
- Audit and review existing processes and advise on change management and implementation
- Extract, aggregate and critically evaluate data and information from various sources
- Use problem solving skills to address information problems in everyday practice
- Design and assess the use of technology to assist with decision making
- Interpret and apply the results of Health Informatics/Information Governance research
Students awarded the MSc should be able to:
- Define a research question or set of research questions; drawing on a critical appraisal of published
- Research to identify needs for new knowledge
- Identify appropriate methods for addressing such questions in the relevant context.
- Collect relevant data in a professional or research context
- Interpret this data with reference to previous research, theory and contexts of implementation
(c) Professional/subject-specific/practical skills
Students awarded the Certificate, Diploma, or MSc should be able to:
- Apply the principles learned to daily professional activities
- Apply theoretical knowledge of health informatics/information governance to the investigation and management of problems and suggest best practice solutions.
- Work across organisational and professional boundaries to develop multidisciplinary solutions
- Function autonomously in the field of Health Informatics/Health Information Governance practice and applied research
MSc only
- Inspire and participate in research and development in Health Informatics/Information Governance
(d) Transferable skills
- Preparation and communication of information about Health Informatics/Information Governance topics to specialist and non specialist audiences
- Application of problem-solving skills to a variety of professional and practice situations and management of own learning through PDP process to encourage lifelong learning and future professional development
