The Faculty of Health Informatics of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has been delivering a range of online distance learning programmes since it was created in 1998.

Our current postgraduate programmes include:

  • Diploma in Remote and Offshore Medicine
  • Health Informatics postgraduate qualifications, delivered in partnership with the University of Edinburgh at Certificate, Diploma and MSc level
  • Health Information Governance postgraduate qualifications, delivered in partnership with the University of Edinburgh at Diploma and MSc level

Health informatics is an emerging discipline concerned with the knowledge, skills and tools that enable information to be managed and used to support the delivery of healthcare and to promote health. The topic also encompasses numerous non-technical issues such as effective data governance, quality improvement and managing change.

Remote & Offshore Medicine

Our Remote and Offshore Medicine Postgraduate Programme (DipROM) aims to provide health professionals working in remote and in some instances potentially hazardous locations the knowledge and skills to operate effectively in a remote environment using an evidence based approach.

Health Information Governance

Health Information Governance >>

Information Governance concerns the requirements, standards and best practice that apply to the handling of information. This course provides a comprehensive, practice-based approach to understanding the issues that arise in relation to Information Governance in health and social care provision, particularly for electronic data management.
