Online distance learning programmes

The Faculty of Health Informatics of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has been successfully delivering a range of international online programmes since it was established in 1998 when it created and launched its online, postgraduate Diploma in Medical Informatics course (DMI).

Since then the Faculty have launched a range of online programmes, both autonomously and in partnership, the newest being the Diploma in Remote and Offshore Medicine which was launched in October 2008. More details can be found on the Dip ROM page

We also deliver a range of short online CPD modules full details can be found on the CPD page

In September 2008 the Faculty became part of the historic partnership between The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh forged in 2007 to deliver the MSc in the Edinburgh Surgical Sciences Qualification (ESSQ) . As part of this ongoing partnership the Faculty now offer two online distance learning programmes in Health Informatics   and Health Information Governance  drawing on the collective strengths in academic and professional excellence that both partners can provide.

Prior to this the Faculty developed a successful partnership with the University of Bath in 2003 to create and deliver two online Masters Programmes, Healthcare Informatics, and Information Governance. These programmes are now being phased out with the final intake for Information Governance students held in October 2007 and for Healthcare Informatics students, April 2008.

Pan-Surgical Electronic Logbook for the United Kingdom & Ireland

The Pan Surgical Logbook (or ePortfolio) has been developed to support surgeons of all grades and all specialties in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The FHI ePortfolio has been developed in close co-operation with the Specialty Associations to provide a whole of life service to surgeons of whatever specialty. The main features are the ability to build up a complete work record, appraisals, capability to record CPD’s and in the near future the potential to provide reports in support of re-validation and re-certification.
